Moufflon Hunt in Hungary

Moufflon Hunt in Hungary - Hunting Season:
Moufflon 1st September 28th February
Many hunters, who return to Hungary year after year to hunt roebuck and red deer stags, would like to hunt for a moufflon at some time or another for a change. Moufflon are not indigenous to Hungary. They were first introduced in 1869 by Count Forgách to the rocky, deciduous woods in the mountainous regions of the north of the country, where the habitat suits them best.
We recommend our areas in Pilis, Börzsöny, Vértes Mountains and in the Bakony Forests to any hunters interested in hunting the moufflon. In these regions, there is the best chance of shooting a moufflon. Other good moufflon populations are in the north Hungarian mountains of Mátra, Bükk and Zemplén.
The best time to hunt for the moufflon is from November until the beginning of January, when the leaves have fallen. Cold - preferably snowy - winter days are particularly suitable. The length of the horns is between 60-80 cm. In good areas guests can shoot moufflon with horns of 80-90 cm. Moufflon with horns of over 90 cm are very rare trophies.
