Hunting in Hungary
Gemenc, Bakony Forest, Gyulaj, Lábod, Gúth - numerous place names that sound mysterious for hunters around the world. They are world-famous Hungarian hunting areas with legendary game stock, with royal trophies of stag, fallow buck and roebuck, as well as they are famous of their wild boars and small game hunting of great bag. You could suppose that nowadays it is unusual, however, the facts mentioned above are not unique at all! Hungary, situated in the heart of Europe and surrounded by the Carpathians, is rich in famous hunting areas mentioned above. Furthermore, there are also hunting areas with much better conditions concerning game stock, however, foreign hunters can hardly remember their strange and crackjaw name. In the following pages, we would like to present the multi-coloured and varied regions of Hungary rich in natural resources, the species of game that live and can be hunted there, the game management based on age-long traditions and achievements of modern sciences at the same time, the successful methods of hunting, the hunting possibilities of various hunting areas, the hunting lodges for more comfort of the hunters, all in all, the hunting in Hungary.
Independently of the fact whether you take part in roebuck hunting on the flowery, lush green meadow at the end of April or in sultriness of August when you can call the roebucks by means of a pipe, or you stalk a belling red deer in a misty and chilly forest early in the morning in September, or you can bag a fallow deer under the colourful leafy crown of the forest in October or a mouflon ram in the leafless, hazy forest in November or December, hunters who arrive to Hungary for hunting, can return with excellent trophies and everlasting hunting experiences.
Moreover, we have to mention also drive hunts: the herd that sets off because of the barking of the dogs and noise made by the beater in the snow-covered forest; the recoil of the leader hind that is conscious of danger; the rapid turning of the weathercock; the shy hares that run away in a zigzag on the top of frosty furrows at the field; then the warmth and bitterly smoke of bonfires made traditionally at the end of hunting; the fanfare in honour of the bagged game; the common hunting success of the beaters, staff and professional hunters; all these mean the highlight of the hunting without any doubt.
What is more, Hungary is waiting for you with its traditional hospitality, with typical gastronomy, with excellent wines and spirits, with world-famous spas and numerous attractions.
