The Egererdő J.S.C. manages the forestry in 72,000 ha in part of the State forest in the Northern Middle Mountains as well as in a smaller state forest in the lowlands, which belong to the Alföld (Great Hungarian Plains). The hunting area has three different geographical parts: the Mátra Mountains, the western part of the Bükk Mountains and the south-western part of the hill country of Heves-Borsod.
About 51% it is a nature conservation area, which has a vital impact on the management. The forestry runs a game management project in three areas of 57,000 ha: in the northern hills, the Bükk mountains and the Mátra mountains.
The huntable game species are divided in this area as follows: red deer 25%, roe deer 19%, moufflon 25% and wild boar 31%. The numbers of fallow deer are minimal. At the moment the J.S.C. manages two fenced areas for wild boar and moufflon in the Mátra and the Bükk Mountains, and plans to build two additional areas.
NORTHERN HILLS
Reviernummer: 18
The hunting area of 6,357 ha is in the hills of Heves-Borsod. The height above sea level lies between 300-400 m. The area s 90% woodland, the most common trees being oak, beech and acacia. Thick bush is characteristic for this area and the amount of farmland is minimal. Because of these circumstances and the good quality of the trophies, this is the best hunting area of the J.S.C. Red deer, moufflon and wild boar find excellent living conditions.
Hunting guests are accommodated in Keserű hunting lodge, which lies in a beautiful quiet wooded area. The first class lodge has 1 double room and 2 three-bed rooms.
BÜKK-MOUNTAIN HUNTING AREA
Nr. of the hunting field: 19
The hunting area (22,821 ha) is in the western part of the Bükk Mountains. The altitute lies between 300-900 m above sea level. 90% of the area is forested with mainly oak and beech trees. Due to the geographical conditions the biotope of the area is poor therefore the trophy quality is also poor. Red deer, roe deer, moufflon and wild boar can be found in the area.
Apart from the hunting in the open areas, it is also possible to hunt for wild boar and moufflon in a 300 ha fenced area. The Villa Negra guesthouse lies in one of the most beautiful valleys in this mountain region and has 9 double rooms with bath. There are also other hotels and guest houses nearby.

MÁTRA-MOUNTAINS HUNTING AREA
Nr. of the hunting field: 20

The highest hunting area in Hungary is in the Mátra Mountains, north-east of Budapest. The 27,745 ha hunting area lies 300-1000 m above sea level, and the stony and rocky cliffs offer moufflon an ideal habitat. Each year around 90 moufflon rams are shot, mostly in the open area. Because of the mountainous terrain, the trophies of the red deer stags are of a moderate quality. Most of the roe deer live in the lower hunting areas. It is also possible to hunt in a fenced area. Wild boar and moufflon can be hunted in a 1,200 ha park.
