This varied countryside, which stretches north from the foot of the Bakony Mountains and nests in the Kisalföld (Small Plains), offers hunters a rich and varied hunting experience. In this area are many small streams and rivers, forests, wet, reedy meadows, planted woods of acacia and poplar, arable land, pastures and hay fields. Animals find here a diverse habitat with excellent living conditions, and all species of big oboriginal Hungarian game live here.
There are many red deer, roe deer and wild boars and these offer excellent hunting, while there are not so many fallow deer and moufflon and these can be found in small corners in some of the area. The wild pheasant and hares should be mentioned: they can be found in the flatter parts of the hunting area.
The hunting season covers most of the year. In March it begins with the evening woodcock hunts, and then roebuck hunting begins in the middle of April.
One can shoot good average trophies in the whole of the area, but there are some parts where roebuck with antlers weighing 450-500 g appear. During rutting at the end of July and the beginning of August, one can lure old experienced bucks with a roe caller. When hunting roebuck in late spring and in summer from raised hides it is possible, on moonlit nights to hunt for wild boars.
The red deer rutting in September is the main event in the hunting season. The weight of the antlers of the red stags shot in rutting, which show the distinctive features of both the stags of Bakony and Zala, vary considerably. One can expect to shoot a trophy with a weight of 5-9 kg, but in some of the old rutting places stags have been shot exceeding 10 kg. A stag was shot here with an antler weight of 11.68 kg (CIC 260.02 points) which is 15th in the world rankings at the moment (Noszlop, 1992).
The autumn and winter months offer maybe the most varied hunting possibilities. Apart from the usual drive hunts, guests can shoot cull stags, sometimes fallow bucks or moufflon, as well as hinds and wild boar. The best time is just before full moon, particularly with frost and snow. At this time it is possible to shoot big boars with a little help from Diana or Hubertus. In the roe deer areas it is possible to shoot 8-10 roe does in one day using a vehicle during December and January, if accompanied by an experienced professional hunter who knows his area well. It is also possible to shoot a few deer on drive hunts in some parts of the area.
"JÁRIPATAKMENTI" HUNTING COMPANY BAKONYJÁKÓ-JÁRIFÖLD
Nr. of the hunting field: 105

This hunting area is south-east of the town of Pápa. One third of the area is flat, but the main part is hilly and rises up to the foothills of the Bakony Forest. The agricultural lands are all edged with rows of trees and the main crops are corn, maize and rape.
A hunting area of 3,000 ha, close to the Bakony Forest, has a good population of red deer and wild boars. Here are large forests of oak, acacia and pine trees alternating with meadows and pastures. Red deer stags with an antler weight of 6-8 kg can be shot during rutting. During autumn and winter the fallow deer and the moufflon move down from the Bakony Forest to the lower areas. Every year some trophy animals are shot. 3-4 hunting guests can hunt at the same time in this area. It is also possible to organise drive hunts for 1-2 days in the winter months.

"SOMLÓTÁJA" HUNTING COMPANY NAGYALÁSONY
Nr. of the hunting field: 115

This area is named after the Somló Mountain, with its unusual shape which rises unexpectedly from the plains. The volcanic mountain is best known for its exceptional wine.
This hunting syndicate is in many ways unique amongst the hunting areas in the north-west of Hungary. There are many very old rutting places. Therefore, this area has been known amongst the knowledgeable "Hungarian hunters" as a good red deer stag area. Due to the excellent game management, the average weight of the red deer antlers is 6-9 kg, often reaching 10 kg but in some cases up to 11-12 kg. The countryside is flat. The farmland is used for planting corn, maize, sunflower and rape, in between there are large woods. There are several streams which have permanent water and are important for the red deer in rutting. Apart from red deer it is also possible to hunt successfully for roe deer and wild boars. The roebuck trophies are good and in April and May, as well as during rutting medal antlers are often shot. The hunting area also offers an interesting method of shooting wild boars: by stalking, during full moon nights it is possible to shoot 3-4 wild boars. The chance that there is a big boar amongst the trophies is not very good, but when the gods of hunting are on your side, it is possible that you will be able to celebrate shooting a big boar. (17-19 cm)
There are also wild pheasant in the area which can be shot on walked-up shoots, although they are mostly shot by syndicate members. From the beginning of December until the end of January it is also possible to hunt wild geese.

"VASZAR-GECSE" HUNTING COMPANY VASZAR
Nr. of the hunting field: 119

The Vaszar hunting area lays north-west of the Bakony Forest in the plains and is mostly farmland. Between the fields, planted with maize, corn, rape and sunflower, are two large areas of forest, the woods of the villages Vaszar und Gecse. The area is easy to hunt and one can drive everywhere.
This is a big game area with moderate populations of red and roe deer and wild boar. The woods and wide reed-beds offer both big and small game cover.
The average antler weight of the red deer stags is 5-7 kg, but stags with antlers of 8-9 kg (even 10 kg) can be found. The quality of the roebuck is also good. Roebuck with antlers weighing over 350 g can be shot, and every year there are one or two buck shots with trophies over 400 g.
There are not many hares or pheasants, and these are shot by local hunters.
Hunting Area: 5,810 ha with 17% woodland
Accommodation:
- Privately in the house of the professional hunter in the Village Vaszar, where there are 2 double rooms with single beds and bath for guests. There is a trophy room and guests are offered Hungarian home cooking.

GERENCEMENTI HUNTING COMPANY TAKÁCSI-MALOMSOK
Nr. of the hunting field: 120

This 5,100 ha area lies to the north of the town of Pápa, about 90 km from the border at Nickelsdorf. The flat countryside has plenty of water and is mainly agricultural. The area is well known amongst hunters for its good roebuck. Every year good roebuck trophies are shot of over 400 g. Hunting is mainly from a vehicle. 2-3 hunting guests may hunt at any time.
Hunters must sometimes shoot over distances of 180-200 m.
This area has also very good small game shooting; the pheasant and hare populations are excellent. As red deer and wild boar are migratory, we usually recommend this area to roebuck and small game hunters.
Hunting Area: 5,100 ha with 17% woodland (poplar, acacia and white pine)
Accommodation: Hotel Villa Classica**** in Pápa (ca. 8 km from the hunting area).
